Nope…this isn’t a joke.

This cult is for everyone who wants to take control of their career.

If you know me, you’ve probably never heard me say anything like this (but that doesn’t mean I’ve never felt this way before) – I’M NERVOUS. I’m nervous about writing this article.

If you don’t know me, I’ve enjoyed a 30-year career in Tech. It all started at what was then called Andersen Consulting (now Accenture ) in technical and project management roles helping Fortune 500-sized customers navigate change as they became more digital. Following my consulting days I spent 20 years in sales, marketing and operations at Citrix as we grew from a couple hundred million to well over three billion dollars in annual revenue. After Citrix, I moved on to serve as an officer and a C-level exec at two public companies which were Carbonite and OpenText.

Throughout my career, I’ve been lucky enough to work with thousands and thousands of people on truly amazing teams. About three years ago, I had the opportunity to radically change my lifestyle – I retired from being a day-to-day business operator. From a professional perspective I’ve focused on board work, being an advisor, and playing the role of interim “fractional exec” at several companies. On the personal side, this lifestyle change has had a profound effect on my family and personal life – I wouldn’t give up what I have now for anything.

But one thing I’ve missed terribly is working directly with people as a mentor and coach and helping them build their careers. So, I’m starting a company called Career Like A BOSS.

Here’s where the nervous part comes in. I’ve always been a “big-company-guy”, I’ve never started a company from scratch before. I know there’s A LOT for me learn, and I’m certain to make a bunch of mistakes, but I’d like to share my journey with you including all the failures and learnings and hopefully some successes along the way.

As far as the company goes, I have signed up 3 paying customers who were willing to take a little gamble on a new on-line leadership course we're developing called “Lead Like A BOSS.” The course is about halfway completed at this point, I’ve delivered 4 of 8 modules to these customers. However Career Like A BOSS turns out, I will never be able thank these early customers properly for having enough faith in me to actually pay for something that doesn’t exist yet.

It will be some time before I’m ready to sell anything to other businesses and individuals.
